Hong Kong PAKONTONG — food as medicine, a belief we have always kept.
We believe in the power of Chinese herbs, and build nourishment made for everyday life.
Hong Kong, the Pearl of the Orient. It holds the energy of a modern skyline and the depth of East and West. Step into Hong Kong and you are struck by towers that reach the clouds — and drawn to the herbal shops on every street and lane. Here, a thousand years of Chinese tradition has been carried on and renewed, joined with Hong Kong's uncompromising pursuit of quality, earning the trust of the world. Time-honoured herbal wisdom runs through PAKONTONG's belief in food as medicine to this day. We believe in the power of Chinese herbs, and build a nourishing brand for modern life — the younger you are, the more you love PAKONTONG.
Bringing Chinese herbal tradition into young people's lives is how we renew it. Herbs belong not only in the apothecary cabinet, but in a cup of tea, a cup of coffee, a glass at night.

Food as medicine is centuries-old Chinese dietary wisdom. Today it is governed by a national catalogue, guided by long-term policy, and needed by more people than ever.
Substances that are traditionally both food and Chinese medicinal material. The list keeps growing — additions in 2019, 2023 and 2024; in August 2024, Dihuang, Maidong, Tiandong and Huajuhong were added.
Source: National Health Commission & State Administration for Market Regulation, August 2024By the end of 2025, 323.38 million people in China were 60 or older — 23.0% of the population. Wellness and nourishment are part of daily life for ever more families.

Source: State Council, 2016Food as medicine is not a passing trend. It lives in three meals a day, is rooted in a thousand years of culture, and is written into national long-term plans. For operators, that means steady demand, repeat purchases, and enough time to build a store — and a brand — in depth.
Teas, soups and tonics are part of daily life. Spending happens every day, again and again — not once.
Elders value wellness; the young are making herbs a new lifestyle. From silver-haired to Gen Z, the customer base renews itself.
The national catalogue is updated and expanded; the TCM strategy runs to 2030. The direction is clear.
A thousand years of Chinese medicine culture cannot be copied. The longer the brand, the deeper the trust.

SystemRunning at the flagshipAfter safety assessment, the National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation added four substances to the catalogue of items traditionally used as both food and medicinal material.
87 items in the first list of 2002; 6 added in 2019, including Danggui; 9 in 2023, including Dangshen; 4 in 2024, including Dihuang. The list is updated over time.
National Bureau of Statistics: by the end of 2025, 323.38 million people were aged 60 and above, 23.0% of the population.
Added: Dangshen, Roucongrong, Tiepi Shihu, American ginseng, Huangqi, Lingzhi, Shanzhuyu, Tianma and Duzhong leaf — traditionally both food and medicinal material.
The National Health Commission's rules define them as substances traditionally eaten as food and listed in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, with the catalogue managed dynamically.
Issued by the State Council, the plan sets the direction and priorities for TCM for fifteen years, giving long-term guidance to TCM and the wellness industry.
